No Bake Treats

I fancied making something biscuity and chocolatey without turning the oven on and remembered buying some of these delights a while ago. I figured I would try making some chocolate tiffins using some treats that I always have in the kitchen when the munchies kick in!

These are really simple and easy to make and you’ll need the following ingredients:

225g/8 oz unsalted butter
4 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp cocoa powder
250g/16 oz  broken biscuits (I used 125g/8 oz of Rich Tea and 125g/8 oz Plain Digestives )
1.5 cups raisins or sultanas
225g/8 oz  chocolate (Milk or plain or a combination – I mixed 4 oz milk & 4 oz plain)

First of all, melt the butter, golden syrup and cocoa powder in a saucepan over a low heat

Put the biscuits in a plastic food bag…

…then bash and roll with a rolling pin, you want a mixture of small and larger sized crumbs so that the tiffin has some crunch to it

Add the bashed biscuits to the melted butter mixture in the pan along with the raisins and stir until well mixed. Place the mixture in a 30 x 19cm tin lined with foil and spread evenly using the back of a large spoon

I placed the tin in the freezer to allow it to firm up a little whilst I melted the chocolate. You can use chocolate bars or chips

Melt in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water then spread the chocolate evenly over the biscuit base

you can then refridgerate it for around 2 hours or if you can’t wait that long, pop it in the freezer until the chocolate is set

Cut into squares and enjoy with a nice cup of tea, or if you are feeling generous you can pop them into a lovely gift box or jar and give them as a gift!
